Question:
I've just had a new symptom starting yesterday morning. I felt very
dizzy and couln't walk without holding on to the walls, doors. Felt
like I might tip over. It gradually went away. It happened again this
morning, and is going away. Called my NP (nurse-practitioner). He said
to take hydroxyzine, which he had previously prescribed, an
antihistamine. I'm to wait and see if this drug helps. I'm afraid to
drive right now, and will have my brother take me in today to the lab
for this month's blood tests. I have an appointment to see NP tomorrow.
My NP's main concern is to rule out possibility of stroke. Both sides
of me seem equal in strength! I didn't eat much for two days before.
Could be low blood sugar? Lack of potassium? My NP said my chloride
and potassium were low last month. I usually take two tablets of
potassium daily. My muscles are strong, dizziness only. Anyone have
this happen to you? Last time I felt like this was when I disabled
myself with too much booze! Over two years ago. Could not eating for
48 hours two days ago cause something like this?
Answer:
Yes, I get dizzy. It was one of the reasons for stopping work. I work
construction, sometimes up high, operate heavy equipment, ect. I told my
boss I wasn't going to do certain things as I was not only afraid of hurting
myself, but my work mates. While working I got dizzy all the time, every
time I bent over and stood up I would about pass out.
The dizziness has gone for the most part for a while. But sometimes I'm so
sick with this treatment I can't even drive. My head is so muddy I can't
concentrate to drive safely.
Drink lots of water, that helps. I am hypoglycemic, so I need to eat
frequent small meals. If my blood sugar goes down, I get headaches and feel
very tired. And being sick I forget to eat because food just don't look
good. Yes, sometimes I have to force myself to eat, just to have something
in my stomach.
Make sure they are checking your thyroid!!! That is not uncommon among us
heppers doing treatment and can cause all manors of sides of its own, not to
mention you could die from thyroid malfunction!!
I suffer from morning dizziness if I get out of bed right
after waking up. I've learned to sit up in bed with my feet
on the floor and listen to the news or a song on the radio
for a couple of minutes. It's helped. I still have problems
if I bend over, my eyes get unfocused and get very dizzy. So
when in the garden I always carry my staff. I probably look
like Gandalf the wizard to the kids in the neighborhood!!!
Maybe that's why they don't come around at Halloween!!!
