Question:
I get a weekly massage (luxury, I know :), and that helps with the
tension for a few days. I've just started the Alexander method, but
don't really know what to expect. I go to a chiropractor every month
for a neck adjustment. But still no cure.
Have any of you figured out a way around this kind of dizziness? It's
my most persistent symptom. If I could do away with it, I'd feel brand
new.
Answer:
your not going to like this but: if indeed you have been seen by both
neurologists ent specialists and have been told its a functional problem
besides doping up on antivert and other less then effective antihistamines and
sedatives there is little you can do-but have hope-I have seen a few folks who
had these symptoms most likey caused by some virus that attacks the inner ear
and sooner or later burns out. I am forever insistant that one go to a large
university hospital for a workup rather then a local group or sole
practitioner.
sorry for your dizzyness-btw sometimes it is related to these things you may or
may not have checked out:
eyesight-in particular things like ambliopia and stereooptic confluence eye
dominance vrs hand dominance a developmental opthomologist is the one to see
here.
meds: any med can cause dizzyness or exacerbate it-as some can reduce it
including appropriate benzo levels if it is a sequela of anxiety
ears: there are some vestibular diseases that are very difficult to diagnose
and most are treated via surgery-a ent who works on both adult and pediatric
populations may be of benefit they have better dexterity around small areas.
pulmonary function tests: sometimes when airways are obstructed by underlying
asthma allergies or diseases one can have poor oxygenation and have dizzyness
bp- sometimes ones blood preassure varies dramatically during the day and even
though it isn't consistantly high a beta blocker or calcium channel blocker ace
inhibitor etc. can help stabilize it
Sometimes some off the wall nutritional varices can have a vertigo symptom
perhaps a good nutritionist or naturopath doc can help.
