Question:
It's definitely a game for those of us who get
motion sickness with 95% of RPGs coming out now. I was first in line
when MM9 came out. I was playing MM7 for the 4th time through on the
day MM9 was released. I played mm9 for about an hour and had to
uninstall it and give it to my friend's kids. System Shock 2? Hurl.
Deus Ex? Hurl. Wizardry 8? Hurl. I'll bet a boatload of money that
it's going to be the same deal with Morrowind.
Answer:
I'm being neither sarcastic nor facetious when I ask this; just
curious. Are you saying that games that you have played that use a
first person view actually cause you to become physically ill? Do
flight sims or race car sims cause the same reaction?
If so - how can that possibly be? There is no actual motion involved
in playing a PC game - the motion cues are all visual. Motion sickness
(from what I was taught in the Navy) is caused by the cyclic motion of
the fluids in the semi-circular canals in your ears that somehow get
out of synch with what your brain thinks is really happening. But then
I suppose anything is possible - I knew a few guys in the navy that
got sea sick as soon as they crossed the brow on to a docked ship
(they were eventually medically discharged ).
, this is a well documented phenomenon in FP gaming. You are mostly
correct in how you understand motion sickness with one small problem. Your
brain compares the data it gets for visual cues and proprioception (changes
in joint position) to the data it gets from your equilibrium system. When
these don't match, some people cannot reconcile it easily and therefore get
motion sickness.
