Question:
A FOAF heard that a certain kind of motion sickness pills could get you
high. Has anyone heard anything about this.
Answer:
According to some people I know, a motion sickness pill such as Gravol
taken in large quantities (15-20 pills) produces a very hallucinogenic
effect, similar to mushrooms. I've also heard that's because these pills
contain psilocybin. I've never had the desire to try this myself,
considering it seems rather dangerous in comparison to many of the
relatively safe drugs available. I've also heard varying reports; one
friend said he took 17 with no effect (other than that he was really tired;
no surprise to me, one or two of the things knock me unconcious), others
I've heard 15 with potent hallucinogenic effects (claims of Jim Morrison
posters dancing, and two cats running into the middle of the road, smashing
into each other, exploding, and a dog running out from the smoke). I'm very
dubious, though.
I know of one friend (a very experienced tripper) who once tried a twelve-
tablet box of Marizine. She claimed that it was far and away the most
intense trip she ever had. Unlike on acid, when you know
you're hallucinating, you are absolutely unable to distinguish between
reality and hallucinations on marizine. My friend had conversations with
people that did not exist. She had one moment when she was talking with her
father (whom she was hallucinating) about all the spiders (which she also
hallucinated) on her wall when her real father walked into her room. This
very much disturbed her. By her own description, she was completely insane.
Mind you, this is someone who has done acid dozens of times, and felt that
her strongest acid trip paled in comparison to marizine.
Now, a word to the wise. This is not robitussin.
The hallucinations from marizine lasted for
36 HOURS!! The "coming down" took several days. A full week after
ingesting the drug, my friend was still unable to read. Although she
is OK now, my friend is very hesitant to recommend the experience to
anyone. She claims to have since researched the active ingredient in
marizine (I can't recall what it is; it's printed on the box) and
discovered that the LD-50 for it is equal to about 12 tablets. In other
words, this is a big risk. Unless I am suicidal and/or incredibly bored
with lots of free time, I know I am never going to try it. Be careful.
